About me

Based in the West Midlands, I'm a landscape painter drawn to both natural and urban scenes, from leafy canals to the street where I live. Working primarily with acrylics on canvas, I often paint en plein air or back in the studio using photographic references.

Fascinated by the interplay of tone and colour, I observe how light causes colours to pop and shapes to emerge. Drawing roughly to mark the composition I then paint with expressive brushstrokes to bring the scene to life. I aim to paint the essence of what I see with subtle exaggerations of colour and tone to draw out the beauty of the everyday. Among my influences are David Hockney, Jess Franks, Peter Brown and Richard Claremont.

Connection to people and places is important to me - I find painting allows this interaction. I want to convey a sense of wonder in the things often overlooked. Alongside landscape painting, I love to sketch and paint portraits of people I feel inspired by.  I was recently featured in Sky Arts' Landscape Artist of the Year.
